Sometimes when he was alone and took a deep breath, he could still smell peppermint. It would send chills up and down his skin, goosebumps rising in its wake, and he’d take another long, soothing breath and sigh as the fresh mint scent coated every sense and left a smile crookedly on his face. In those moments his hands would itch to touch her, reach out and grab her around the hips before burying his face in her hair, and then the smell would stain him for days.
He opened his eyes and stared across the common room, his mates around him talking about something and James continuously smacking him with balls of parchment as he drifted in and out of daydreaming. Grey eyes searched the room, squinting as the bright afternoon sunlight burned and he shut them again to keep it out. She wasn’t back yet, her afternoon out with the girls leaving him anxious and chomping at the bit to be near her again, but he did his best to wait.
“Are you going to actually pay attention at any point, or are you just going to lay there?” Remus kicked out at his foot, knocking his leg down from the table and making him groan in response. “I’ll take that as a ‘no’.”
